Feed My Sheep: What Jesus Really Meant (And Why It Matters Today)
What Does “Feed My Sheep” Mean?
“Feed my sheep.”
These were not random words.
They were spoken by Jesus after His resurrection—directly to Peter.
But they weren’t just for Peter.
They are for anyone who loves Him.
So what does it really mean to “feed His sheep”?
It means to care for what belongs to Him.
To nourish others spiritually.
To give what God has given to you.
Not just physically—but spiritually.
Because people aren’t just hungry for food.
They’re hungry for truth.
For love.
For guidance.
For God.
The Moment Jesus Spoke These Words
In John 21:15–17, Jesus asks Peter three times:
“Do you love Me?”
And each time Peter says yes, Jesus responds:
“Feed my lambs.”
“Tend my sheep.”
“Feed my sheep.”
This wasn’t repetition.
This was restoration.
Peter had denied Jesus three times.
Now Jesus gives him three opportunities to reaffirm his love—and then gives him responsibility.
Love for Jesus is not just words.
It’s action.
Love and Responsibility Go Together
If you say you love God, there is something that comes with it.
Responsibility.
Not pressure.
Not striving.
But purpose.
Jesus didn’t say:
“Feel something for Me.”
He said:
“Feed my sheep.”
That means:
Speak truth
Share what God teaches you
Encourage others
Help people grow
Your love for God will naturally overflow into others.
Who Are the Sheep?
The sheep are people.
They are:
The lost
The searching
The hurting
The growing
The believers who need encouragement
Sheep need guidance.
They need care.
They need someone who hears from God and is willing to share.
That’s where you come in.
Feeding Isn’t About Perfection
You don’t have to know everything to feed others.
You just have to share what you’ve been given.
If God taught you something—share it.
If God brought you through something—share it.
If God revealed truth to you—share it.
You’re not called to be perfect.
You’re called to be obedient.
What Are You Feeding People?
Whether you realize it or not—you are feeding people every day.
Through your:
Words
Posts
Conversations
Presence
The question is:
What are you feeding them?
Fear?
Doubt?
Confusion?
Or:
Truth.
Peace.
Faith.
Love.
When you walk with God, what comes out of you should reflect Him.
Feeding Through Your Life
Feeding God’s sheep isn’t limited to a church.
It happens everywhere:
On your blog
On Pinterest
On Substack
In your home
In your everyday life
Every platform you have is a place to feed.
Every word you release is a seed.
And seeds grow.
You Don’t Have to Force It
This is important.
You don’t have to strive to feed others.
When you are connected to God, it flows naturally.
Just like a tree doesn’t force fruit—
it produces because it’s rooted.
Stay rooted.
And what people need will come through you.
Why This Matters Right Now
We are living in a time where people are overwhelmed.
There’s noise everywhere.
Opinions.
Confusion.
Distraction.
People are searching.
And many don’t even realize they’re hungry for God.
That’s why “feed my sheep” matters now more than ever.
Because what you carry could be the very thing someone else needs.
A Personal Reflection
There comes a moment when you realize:
“I’m not just here to live for myself.”
You’re here for your Father.
And when you’re aligned with Him, everything changes.
You don’t move randomly anymore.
You move with purpose.
You speak with intention.
You share because you know:
Someone needs this.
How to Start Feeding God’s Sheep
If you feel called but unsure where to begin, start simple:
1. Stay Close to God
You can’t pour what you don’t receive.
2. Share What You Learn
Don’t wait to “know everything.”
3. Be Consistent
Small, daily seeds make a big impact.
4. Lead with Love
Truth without love doesn’t reach hearts.
This Is Bigger Than You
“Feed my sheep” is not about building a platform.
It’s about building people.
It’s about obedience.
It’s about saying:
“Lord, if You gave it to me—I will share it.”
And trusting that He will use it.
Final Prayer
Lord, thank You for trusting me with what You’ve given me.
Teach me how to feed Your sheep with truth, love, and wisdom.
Let my words reflect You.
Let my life be a source of nourishment for others.
Use me for Your purpose.
I’m here for You.
Glory
